Single firm product diffusion model for single-function and fusion products

چکیده
The prosperity of multifunction products (also referred to as fusion products) has changed the landscape of the marketplace for several electronics products. To illustrate, as fusion products gain popularity in cellular phones and office machines, we observe that single-function products (e.g., stand-alone PDAs and stand-alone scanners) gradually disappear from the market as they are supplanted by fusion products. This paper presents a product diffusion model that captures the diffusion transition from two distinct single-function products into one fusion product. We investigate the optimal launch time of the fusion product in various conditions and conduct a numerical analysis to demonstrate the dynamics among the three products. Similar to previous multi-generation single product diffusion models, we find that the planning horizon, the products’ relative profit margin, and substitution effects are important to the launch time decision. However, there are several unique factors that warrant special consideration when a firm introduces a fusion product to the market: the firm’s competitive role, buyer consolidation of purchases to a multifunction product, the fusion technology and the age of current single-function products.

Fusion Product Planning: A Market Offering Perspective
Devices that integrate multiple functions together are popular in consumer electronic markets. Examples include the cellular phone that takes digital pictures and plays MP3’s, the PDA with cell phone, and multi-function office machines. We describe these multi-function devices as fusion products since they fuse together products which traditionally stand alone in the marketplace. In this paper,...
متن کاملA forecasting system by considering product reliability, POQ policy, and periodic demand
This paper presents an economic production quantity (EPQ) model with a periodic order quantity (POQ) policy, product reliability and periodic demand. The machine reliability has decreased over time; therefore, the rates of perfect and defective products reduce and increase over time, respectively. A fixed percentage of these products are reworked while the rest is wasted. Some equipment in thei...
متن کاملA parameter-tuned genetic algorithm for vendor managed inventory model for a case single-vendor single-retailer with multi-product and multi-constraint
This paper develops a single-vendor single-retailer supply chain for multi-product. The proposed model is based on Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) approach and vendor uses the retailer's data for better decision making. Number of orders and available capital are the constraints of the model. In this system, shortages are backordered; therefore, the vendor’s warehouse capacity is another limitati...
متن کاملFusion and sequence analysis of the influenza A (H9N2) virus M2e and C-terminal fragment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis HSP70 (H37Rv)
The present study was aimed to construct a fusion plasmid harboring the extracellular domain of the influenza A M2-protein (M2e), which was fused to the N-terminus of the truncated HSP70 (HSP70359–610) molecule as a new approach for future vaccine research against influenza A. The amplified fragments, M2e and HSP70359-610 genes, were gel-purified. The products were then single digested with Bam...
متن کاملProduction and Operations Management
M by the proliferation of multifunction products, we investigate product portfolio decisions of a single firm by analyzing the impact of three major factors. First, because multifunction products provide complete or partial functionalities of single-function products, we incorporate substitution or cannibalization effects between the potential products. Second, we explicitly model the variable ...
